What is a Support Meeting?

Modified on Tue, 2 Dec at 1:46 PM

A support meeting is a confidential discussion held with your Training Programme Director (TPD) or Associate Dean. These meetings are designed to provide guidance and assistance to trainees who may be experiencing difficulties during their training. They offer an opportunity to explore available options and agree on appropriate next steps.

Support meetings are strictly confidential, and trainees are encouraged to request one whenever they feel additional support would be beneficial.

Common Reasons for Support Meetings

Support meetings may be arranged for a variety of reasons, including but not limited to:

  • Health concerns affecting your ability to train

  • Involvement in a Serious Untoward Incident (SUI) or complaint

  • Referral to the General Dental Council (GDC)

  • Personal circumstances impacting your training progress

  • Concerns raised by your employer

  • Issues you wish to raise regarding your current post

  • Extensions to training following an RCP outcome

(This list is not exhaustive. If you feel a support meeting would be helpful for another reason, please contact the Workforce Training & Education (WT&E) Team or your TPD.)
