What is the 'regional footprint' for London training programmes?

Modified on Mon, 23 Sep at 2:01 PM

Paragraph 33 of the relocation guidance states that doctors and dentists in training must be living within the 'regional footprint' of their training programme in order to be eligible to claim excess travel expenses.

For those on London training programmes, the 'regional footprint' is anywhere within the M25.

For those living outside the London region, there is no entitlement to excess mileage payments unless it can be demonstrated that your residence is within reasonable commuting distance (deemed to be no more than 20 miles) of the majority of the placements on your training programme. Otherwise, agreement of any financial assistance will be subject to the agreement of the Postgraduate Dean (or nominated deputy) on the grounds of exceptional personal circumstances and separate arrangements put in place. If you wish to submit an appeal on these grounds, please contact the relocation team via the PGMDE Support Portal.
