All practising doctors are subject to the GMC’s process of revalidation. For doctors in a structured training programme, this occurs every five years and at the point of CCT. The GMC set revalidation dates but HEE can apply for deferrals or to bring a revalidation date forward to align with CCT. A deferral would occur if HEE had not been provided sufficient evidence in time or there was a cause for concern. A trainee's revalidation can be deferred for up to a year.
Although ARCP is the mechanism for revalidation, the process is separate and your revalidation date will usually be out of sync with your ARCP. For the majority of trainees, revalidation will be a straightforward process informed by your ARCP outcomes. All new starters will be required to complete a Form R Part B which acts as a statement of good standing for revalidation purposes.
