The RCP provides a formal process that reviews the evidence presented by the trainee and their educational supervisor relating to the trainee’s progress in the training programme. It enables the trainee, the Postgraduate Dental Dean and employers to document that the competences required are being gained at an appropriate rate and through appropriate experience. For dental core trainees this process is termed the Review of Competency Progression (RCP) and for dental specialty trainees the Annual Review of Competency Progression (ARCP).
Dental Core Trainees should have an RCP by six months and a Final RCP at the end of the year of training (normally within the last two months).
