Criterion 1 – 4 only

The eligibility criteria relate to certain changes in personal circumstances. ‘An unforeseen, significant change in circumstances’ should relate to:

  • Personal disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010 or
  • Mental health condition or
  • Primary carer responsibilities or
  • Parental/guardian responsibilities or
  • A committed relationship

Criterion 5 only

Applicants are not required to demonstrate any change to personal circumstances and therefore an IDT may be requested for any other reason that is not covered by criterion 1-4.

Applies to all criterion

At the point of application, you must either have accepted an offer of training or already commenced in a training post and have at least 12 months remaining of training at the earliest point of transfer. For full details on the eligibility criteria, please read the IDT guidance which can be found in the Medical Recruitment Training Website: medical.hee.nhs.uk/medical-training-recruitment/Inter-Deanery Transfers (IDTs)

It should be noted that the National IDT process cannot facilitate transfers for resident doctors who wish to move for training or career purposes
