Can my parental leave count towards my training time?

No. Any absence from training, other than for study or annual leave, may have an impact on a doctor’s ability to demonstrate competence and the satisfactory completion of the curriculum and assessment system to enable them to be awarded a F1CC or FPCC.

If you are on parental leave for 12 months, your training time will be extended by 12 months to reflect this.

The General Medical Council has determined that within each 12-month period if a trainee has been absent for a total of 20 days or more (when a trainee would normally be at work), this will trigger a review of whether the trainee needs to have their F1CC/FPCC date extended.
